Why Terra Genesis Exists

Most land clearing companies move dirt. We restore ecosystems. Here's why that matters - and how I got here.

The Origin Story

I Left Commercial Landscaping Because I Couldn't Stand Watching Land Get Degraded

For years I worked in traditional landscaping and commercial construction. We'd make things look pretty on the surface while ignoring what was happening underneath. Strip the topsoil, grade everything flat, install whatever the client wanted.

I kept seeing productive land being destroyed - not because of bad intentions, but because nobody was thinking about the land as a living system.

So I went looking for a different way.

The Apprenticeship

Learning By Doing on a Working Farm

I found a farm manager position in Lancaster County where the landowner was willing to experiment with conservation practices. For years, I practiced:

Biochar production and soil regeneration

Timber stand management and forestry techniques

Composting systems at scale

Forestry mulching for land improvement

Market gardening and regenerative agriculture

It was like getting a master's degree in land stewardship - paid to experiment, fail, learn, and figure out what actually works.

The discovery: Every time we approached land with intention - thinking about ecosystems, water flow, native species, long-term health - the results were completely different than traditional dirt work.

The land would come alive. More light. Better water movement. Native species returning. The whole property transformed.

Why Terra Genesis

There's Almost Nobody Serving This Space

I realized there's a huge gap between traditional excavation (which strips land) and full-scale ecological restoration (which most landowners can't afford or don't need).

Most people just need someone who:

Understands their land as a living system

Can see potential they're missing

Knows how to restore without destroying

Thinks about years 2, 3, and 5 - not just tomorrow

Actually cares about land stewardship

That's what Terra Genesis is.

We help landowners see what their property can become, then we make it happen using conservation-minded forestry and land restoration techniques.

How We Work

Small Team, Personal Attention, Conservation Focus

You work directly with me. No subcontractors, no surprise crews. When you hire Terra Genesis, you get someone who genuinely cares about land stewardship managing your project from start to finish.

We use professional systems. Jobber keeps you informed every step. Clear communication, no surprises, reliable follow-through. Small doesn't mean unprofessional.

We're still learning. I'm honest about this - I'm constantly studying, experimenting on my own 42-acre property, developing these skills. The land teaches you if you pay attention. That humility builds better results.

We practice what we teach. Everything we do for clients, we've tested on our own land first. We're not selling theory - we're sharing what actually works.

What Drives This

Land Stewardship Takes Many Forms

Right now, Terra Genesis focuses on forestry mulching and habitat restoration. That's where we can help the most landowners see and realize their property's potential.

But we're also:

Active in conservation - Members of Katawba Valley Land Trust, volunteers for invasive species removal projects

Practicing regenerative agriculture on our own 42 acres

Researching biochar production as a long-term vision for transforming wood waste into soil health

The through-line: Converting degradation into regeneration. Whether that's overgrown property becoming functional habitat, or wood waste becoming biochar, or invasive species becoming mulch that feeds the soil.

We believe what's good for the land can also be good for business.

My Background

From Logistics to Landscaping to Land Restoration

Before Terra Genesis, my path was:

FedEx Ground - Operations Manager
Learned logistics, safety, team leadership, and how to run efficient operations. Those skills still show up in how we manage projects today.

Commercial Landscaping - West Coast
Got outside, worked with plants, learned the industry. Also learned what I DIDN't want to do - surface-level work that ignored long-term land health.

Farm Manager - Lancaster County
The real education. Years of hands-on practice with conservation agriculture, timber management, biochar, composting, and forestry techniques. This is where I learned to think in ecosystems.

Terra Genesis - Present
Bringing all of it together: operational excellence, conservation knowledge, genuine care for land stewardship.

Current Focus

Habitat Restoration & Forest Management in Lancaster County

We serve Lancaster County and surrounding areas (York, Chester, Fairfield, Kershaw, Union, Mecklenburg) with:

Primary: Forestry mulching and habitat restoration for landowners who want their property to be ecologically functional, not just cleared

Secondary: Agricultural support for farmers who need equipment help, land improvements, or collaborative design work

Future: Industrial biochar production to process wood waste at scale (we're researching, planning, building toward this - but it's not our current service offering)

Who This Is For

We Work Best With Landowners Who See Their Property as More Than Dirt to Move

If you:

Have land that's overgrown or underutilized

Want restoration, not just clearing

Value long-term land health

Appreciate working with someone who thinks about ecosystems

Want professional service with personal attention

We should talk.

If you just need the cheapest hourly rate and want land stripped and graded, we're probably not the right fit. And that's okay - there are plenty of contractors who do that work well.

We serve people who want something different.
