Invasive plant species are one of the most serious land management problems facing Carolina landowners today. They outcompete native plants, destroy wildlife habitat, reduce property value, and spread to neighboring properties and conservation lands. And they don't stop — every season you don't address them they get worse.
Terra Genesis Forestry specializes in invasive species removal done right. Not just cut back to regrow. Removed at the root, mulched in place, and followed with native plant restoration that gives the land a fighting chance to recover.
The invasives we tackle:
Privet — The most common invasive shrub in the Carolina Piedmont. Forms dense thickets that block out all native understory. Requires mechanical removal and follow-up treatment to prevent regrowth.
Kudzu — Covers everything it touches. Climbs trees, smothers native vegetation, and spreads aggressively. Mechanical removal combined with native ground cover establishment is the most effective long-term approach.
Bradford Pear — Rapidly spreading across York, Lancaster, and Chester Counties. Extremely aggressive seeder. Mechanical removal before seed set is critical.
Autumn Olive — Nitrogen-fixing invasive that alters soil chemistry and outcompetes native shrubs. Common on disturbed soils and old fields throughout the Piedmont.
Chinese Wisteria — Strangles trees and structures. Requires complete root removal to prevent regrowth.
Multiflora Rose — Takes over fence lines and field edges fast. Dense thorny thickets that block equipment access and wildlife movement.
Our approach:
Every invasive species removal project starts with a site assessment. We identify all invasive species present, assess the severity of infestation, and build a removal plan that addresses root causes. For most sites we recommend following mechanical removal with native plant installation to occupy the ground and prevent reinvasion.
